What's the Hype?
Everybody keeps talking about the importance of a morning routine, waking up early, making the most of time; but the question is why? Have you wondered if this is just a fad, a hype or is there a deep benefit from having an early morning routine?
Before we get into the why’s, for what, how’s; know that this is being written by a person who was a night owl for the longest time in life. Being a part of a family where everyone would wake up at 4:30am in the morning, I was the only one who would stay up late, prefer the silence of the night and wake up late! I did that for the first 25 years of my life, till I was forced to start waking up early as my work required it. As much as it was against my nature, with time and experience I finally began to see what my parents were nagging me about all my life. The importance of waking up early and its impact not just on your body, but your mind, emotions and overall energies is something else.
With time you will realize its not just about that beautiful sunrise! So, if you are one of those who has been looking for a good enough reason to wake up early, then you are in the right place. Let’s go through the advantages of waking up early.
Impact of Natural Light: Your body has a natural system (circadian rhythm) that regulates your awake-sleep cycle over 24 hours. Your body is tuned to feeling more awake, energized, and active with natural sunlight and as it becomes dark, the body goes into an unwind state of rest. By waking up early, soaking up and being one with the natural light; all your bodily systems are awakened to work well! As a bonus, getting that morning sunlight gives you the right dose of vitamin D!
Me Time: When you wake up early, and the whole world is sleeping around you; there is a difference in the energies. Its calming, soothing, and peaceful. Using that time for yourself – to do what you want, upgrade, organize, complete pending tasks, prepare for the day will set the right pace for your day. You will feel in-charge of your day rather than your day controlling you.
Peak Power: You are fresh, rejuvenated (most of us) after a good night’s sleep. The brain is fully geared up and at its best in those early waking hours. Your decision-making powers are at peak in the morning before the interference of external influences and biases show up. Creating time to take some decisions in those early morning hours will get you prepared and geared up for the day ahead.
Move for Progress: It is common knowledge that exercising is important to experience good health, release of happy hormones, bring in agility in the body and mind. There is no option to justify why there is no time for exercise when you wake up early.
Discipline and Order: Waking up early has its own side benefits which show massive impacts over time. It allows you to build habits which are beneficial, develops punctuality in you, it gives you the time and space to get organized and put everything for the day. You don’t feel rushed, which takes away a lot of stress and pressure from the entire day.
While I have been sharing the benefits of waking up early, there is a catch. Most people want to wake up early because they read/hear that it’s an amazing success habit to have, but they do not know what to do with the extra time they have suddenly got. When you do not know how you plan to utilize your time, you feel lost, aimless, tired again in a couple of hours that you want to go back to sleep.
So, before you take a decision on whether the hype is worth it, and you want to bring it into your life; my personal suggestion is decide how you plan to spend that time.
